Riyadh, day two.

I was woken again by the morning call to prayer and this time could not get back to sleep. I need to find myself some earplugs. So I got up, finally washed my hair (now I have somewhere to plug in my hairdryer) and made myself some vegemite on toast for breakfast. I had a wander around my compound in the morning to see what was around and am rather disappointed by the facilities offered. They have an unheated pool, which looks about 1m deep and a room with a weight machine and some pool tables that I guess is meant to be a gym. Coupled with a very noisy bedroom with curtains that do nothing to block the constant street light and a fairly average bathroom, it’s not the accommodation I was hoping for. I hope to speak with the Dept Head about that next week if I can.

I was contacted last weekend by Dr S, my new boss, to let me know that he was back from his holidays and had been told about my visa delay. He also gave me my very first work assignment, to help him get the lab ready for immunohistochemistry (what I’ll be doing). So without having ever stepped foot into the lab I have to let him know exactly what I need and preferably in a 12 month supply as it takes a long time to get orders into the country (good to know its not just me who can’t get in). Quite a challenge, but an exciting one!
